Deirdre Wolhuter (19**-). Actress.

Biography

She is married to actor Jonathan Pienaar.


Youth

Training

Studied at the University of Cape Town Drama Department, graduating 1989. BA and Performer's Diploma in Speech and Drama.


Career

After graduating she was contracted to PACT Drama. Works a lot as a voice artist for radio and TV. Works as a freelance actor in education, industrial theatre and a number of roles in film and television.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

As a student she had roles in The Night Thoreau Spent in Jail (UCT 1988), Dis Al (UCT 1987), Die Kaalkop Prima Donna (UCT 1987), The Rimers of Eldritch (1988), Zones of Peace (UCT 1989).

Roles in i.a. Two Gentlemen of Verona (Maynardville), The Tempest, King Lear, Boeing-Boeing, Seriously Considering Sydney (1994) and Heliotrope Bouquet (1994), In Kamera (1990), God's Forgotten (1995), Ons Hou Konsert (1999).

She appeared in the BAT production of Vettie, Vettie.

Deirdre also performed in productions of Yerma (2002), Die Man met die Dertien Kinders (2003), Happy Endings are Extra (Artscape 2005), Wrestlers (2008), Careful (2009), Buitepos (2012)

She was a founding member of A Company of Actors in 1995.

TV roles include Leendra in Soutmansland, SABC2, circa 2000 and she appeared in the film 'n Pawpaw vir my Darling (2015).

Awards, etc

Nominated for Fleur du Cap as best supporting actress, 1993, Two Gentlemen of Verona.

In 2006 she won a Micheal Mac Liammoir award [1] for her role in Happy Endings Are Extra.
