Charles Unwin is a South African born playwright, theatre director, journalist, painter.

Biography

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

In 1980 he played a lodger in the Troupe Theatre Company production of Metamorphosis at The People's Space and the Market Theatre (credited as Chas Unwin by Coudyzer).

In 1985 he wrote an experimental play, My Brother Parks, performed that year.

In 2012 he created Orange Book, a site responsive peformance work, and wrote a minor dissertation on the process for his Masters Degree in Theatre and Performance Practice at the University of Cape Town.

He was a contributor to and a member of the editorial board of Noseweek, contributing many articles on the arts and other matters. His more academic publications include "Cinema of Resistance: The Other Side of the Story" (with Colin Belton), in Johan Blignaut and Martin Botha, Movies, Moguls and Mavericks: a Study of South African Cinema 1979-1991 (Showdata, 1992).
