Andrea Vinassa (1958-2021) was a versatile journalist, reviewer and editor.

Biography

Born on 18 April, 1958, she and her sister Celeste grew up in Benoni, where she was one of the top students in the Primary and Secondary School. She studied BSc Domestic Science and also a Honours in Journalism at the University of Stellenbosch.

Besides her writing, she was also a fine photographer and interior decorator

Her later partner Alan Harvey had died some time before and Vinassa herself passed away of cancer in Pretoria on 7 May 2021.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

A highly regarded writer, whose range encompassed everything from news, finance to arts, food, decor and publicity. Besides her key role as the former former Arts Editor of the Vrye Weekblad, she also worked for Beeld, The Star, Femina, M-Net and Red Pepper Pictures over the years.
