A Pleasant Neighbour is a burletta by Mrs. J.R. Planché (néé Elizabeth St George, 1796-1850)[1]

The original text

Apparently translated from an unnamed French play, the work was first performed at the Olympic Theatre, London, on 20 October, 1836. Published in one volume with The Welsh Girl, also by Mrs Planché, by John Dicks (Vol 873 of Dick's Standard Plays)

Performance history in South Africa

1860: Performed as Pleasant Neighbour in the Harrington Street Theatre, Cape Town, by the Sefton Parry company on 27 February, with Delicate Ground (Dance) and The Double Bedded Room (Morton). "La Aldeano" sung by Miss Powell on the occasion.
