Biography
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
He was a member of and a leading performer for the Cape Town Theatrical Club (later to become the Cape Town Dramatic Club) in the period 1858-1861.
He is mentioned by Bosman (1980) as performing songs, as an interlude, on 17 July 1860 during performances by the Cape Town Dramatic Club of Power and Principle (Schiller/Barnett) and Two Heads are Better than One (Horne).
He also led a minstrels troupe known as the Ethiopian Minstrels (or D'Urban's Ethiopian Minstrels), that participated in a "Grand Entertainment" put on by Mr St George in March of 1861. They performed a "Variety of Negro Melodies" on the occasion.
