Dutchman
Dutchman is a play written by African-American playwright Amiri Baraka (1934-2014), born Everett LeRoi Jones [1]. It was the last play that he wrote using his birth name.
The play won an Obie Award.

The original text
Dutchman was first presented at the Cherry Lane Theatre in Greenwich Village, New York City, on March 1964.
Translations and adaptations
The play was made into a film in 1967.
Adapted by Dukuza ka Macu and Sarah Pleydell as The Park and performed in Maseru, Lesotho in 1979.
Performance history in South Africa
1970s: A production for Space Theatre for club members only featured Yvonne Bryceland and Zakes Mokae.
pre-1981: Fats Dibeco starred in a South African production, venue unknown. This was possibly a Market Theatre Laboratory production, also starring Saira Essa and directed by Lindiwe Matshikiza. The event was controversial and attracted a lot of attention from the security police.
