The High Cost of Loving (1914) is a farce in three acts by Frank Mandel (1884-1958), the author of No, No, Nanette. In South Africa it was first staged at His Majesty's Theatre in May 1920 by the New Comedy Company. The cast consisted of Cecil Kellaway (Ludwig Klinke), Lew James (Albert Bean), Grafton Williams (Edward Hauser), Edward Vincent (Anthony Tiedemeyer), Edith Cartwright/Naomi Rutherford (Emma Klinke), Naomi Rutherford/Reina Selma (Cora Klinke), Forbes Dawson (Lawrence Tucker), William Mollison (Professor Noel Burman), Florence Creagh (Matilda Burman) and Phyllis Sinclair (Rose Hauser). Adapted from an unspecified German play, it was produced by William Mollison.
