Jungle Theatre Company
History
In 1995 Vincent Meyburgh co-founded the street theatre group Jungle Performance in Cape Town. In 2001 they were renamed Jungle Theatre Company and in 2004 they registered as a Non Profit Organization and a Public Benefit Organization and developed a drama skills workshop programme to help children and young people broach personal social and environmental issues.
The aims
Objectives of the company are to empower children, youth and families by giving them a combination of Inspiration and motivation; theatre skills and project specific (environmental, social, cultural) skills and knowledge.
The activities they undertake include Theatre shows for children, youth and families; Theatre workshops for children, youth and families and Theatre workshops for organisations and/or people who work with children, youth and families.
The performances
In 1996 they created One Country, One Picnic, a street theatre piece about elements, which toured Johannesburg, Mpumalanga, Bloemfontein and Cape Town. Other productions over the years, all troured widely. These include include Gum Dance Boots (1998) , Your Story (1999), Vinnie from Zok (2000), The Whale Show (2001, Jungle Jive (2002 & 2003 ) , Hoerikwaggo (2005), A Dog’s Life (2006), Scazi Love (2006), Moon In The Sky (2007), Moya The Air We Breathe (2008), Indlovu People (2009), Shark Dreams (2009) and Laduma Jungle Training (2010)
