Published by Heinemann in 1922: Hassan : the story of Hassan of Bagdad and how he came to make the Golden Journey to Samarkand : a play in five acts.

First produced in 1923.

Performance history in South Africa

A lavish production was done by NTO, in conjunction with African Consolidated Theatres, in 1950, featuring André Huguenet, Lydia Lindeque, Jobie Stewart, Harry Sarber, Doreen Mantle, Frank Wise, Siegfried Mynhardt, James Norval, Emgee Pretorius, Johann Nell, Dan Welman, Charles Stodel and others. Directed by Basil Dean. Decor and costumes by Geoffrey Long. The production was staged at several venues countrywide, among others at the Alhambra Theatre, Cape Town, in October 1950.

In 1951 Dean re-produced it in London for the Festival of Britain celebrations. The cast then was André Huguenet, Hilda Simms, Elizabeth Sellars, Frederick Valk, Arthur Lowe. Director: Basil Dean. Choreography of ballets: Marie Rambert; decor: Motley
