The Marriage of Mr Mississippi

The Marriage of Mr. Mississippi (German: Die Ehe des Herrn Mississippi) is a play by the Swiss writer Friedrich Dürrenmatt. The play was written in 1950, but Dürrenmatt continued to revise it until 1980. It premiered on 26 March 1952 at the Munich Kammerspiele, directed by Hans Schweikart. The play was adapted into a 1961 film with the same title.

Translations and adaptations

A translation into Afrikaans by Pieter Fourie, titled Die Huwelik van Mnr. Mississippi was presented by CAPAB Afrikaans Drama, directed by Pieter Fourie, in the Nico Malan Theatre, opening 25 October 1973 and from 14 November 1973 in the H.B. Thom Theatre. Decor by Raimond Schoop, costumes by Jennifer Craig. The cast: Louw Verwey (Florestan Mississippi), Marga van Rooy (Anastasia), Alec Bell, Johan Botha, Mees Xteen, Pieter Geldenhuys, Marie Pentz, Paul Slabolepszy, Pieter de Swardt. Stage manager Mavis Lilenstein.
