JANSEN, M.M. (18*-19*) Playwright and cultural activist. ** Wife of the later Governor General of South Africa, E.G. Jansen, she wrote the popular play Afrikaner Harte (191*?) and was a founder member of the Saamwerk-Unie ("Co-operation Union") in Natal, a cultural Organisation fighting for the rights of Afrikaans and Afrikaners in the province. Also a leading member of the Pietermaritzburg Debats- en Letterkundige Vereniging (See Du Toit, 1988, Binge 19**) [TH, JH]
