HERTZBERG, Lily (19**-) Puppeteer. ** As one of South Africa’s most productive puppeteers she translated and adapted many European texts. She founded The Loft Puppet Theatre in 1963 with which she did i.a. **. In 1972 she founded the Puppet Space in The Space Theatre, Cape Town, doing an adaptation of Hansel and Gretel, The Lonely Giant and Rebirth of an Ostrich, and directing a programme consisting of three plays entitled Three Plays in Light and Shadow. * In 1969 she became South Africa’s representative at UNIMA. She is the author of Puppetry for young and old which includes The Bewitched Tree which was performed at the International Puppet Festival in Charlesville-Mézièrres (France) in 1972. In 19** she left South Africa to settle in London (UK).
