The original text
Subtitled "Ein Kriminalstück älterer Art" ("A Crime Play of an Older Kind"), it is set in a lonely country house where three brewery heiress sisters and their loyal servant, Rudolf, spend their summers. Rudolf has had secret, tender affairs with each of the three sisters without the others knowing. Each sister promised to write him into her will. When Rudolf begins making demands, a lethal game of intrigue and greed unfolds.
It premiered in 1968.
Translations and adaptations
In 1970 the play was made into well-known East German TV movie produced by Deutscher Fernsehfunk, directed by Kurt Jung-Alsen and starring Inge Keller, Marianne Wünscher, and Herbert Köfer.
Thereafter followed two more TV adaptations in 1972 (directed by Ulrich Lauterbach) and in 1974 (directed by Harry Kalenberg and Georg Madeja.)
An audio version, directed by Klaus Gmeiner, was also made in 1972.[1]
