Biography
Born Betty Botha in Cape Town, the daughter of the actress, speech teacher and theatremaker Minna Freund and Judge C.L. Botha. Studied at University of Stellenbosch.
Married to Leon Hugo.
She was a founder member of the Libertas Theatre Club in Stellenbosch whilke studying there.
Became a lecturer in English at the University of South Africa and later taught at the Pretoria Technikon. While there she was an active member of the *** dramatic society and wrote a doctoral thesis on German translations of George Bernard Shaw's works.
She later became a lecturer in English at Pretoria University.

She produced a production of The Dark is Light Enough in Stellenbosch.
