My Naam is Dingetjie

My Naam is Dingetjie (lit. "my name is little whatchamacallit") is an Afrikaans film by Dirk de Villiers (1924-2009).

The film

Referred to as a "Boerewors-western", it is the first in the 1975 "Dingetjie" series of comedies, broadly inspired by the 1970/71 Terence Hill and Bud Spencer "spaghetti westerns" about the character called "Trinity" (notably My Name Is Trinity[1] and Trinity Is Still My Name[2]). The second Afrikaans film was Dingetjie is Dynamite! (October, 1975).

It is an action comedy about Daan and Dingetjie, two layabouts who live on their run-down farm with their sister (Sus), who's sick and tired of their lazy ways. She threatens to run off with the first man she meets, and so when handsome young Bill arrives to have his car fixed, the brothers get nervous. They decide they will have to frighten Bill away but he is more than a match for them.

The story and screenplay were written by C.F. Beyers-Boshoff and the film directed by Dirk de Villiers, with Louw Verwey (as "Daan"), Roelf Laubscher (as "Dingetjie"), Chris du Toit (as "Bill Verster") and Pearl Gawlowski (as "Sus"). The rest of the cast included Fitz Morley, Wenda Scholz, Pieter-Dirk Uys, Dirk de Villiers, Lynne Maree, Alwyn Louw, Peter Grannell, Manfred Zabovski and Felicity van Eck.
