Jan Cronjé
CRONJÉ, Jan (19** - 19**) Teacher, Afrikaans stage and film actor and radio-announcer, public relations officer. Starting off as a performer for Volksteater in the late nineteen thirties, he was also a member of the Katdorings and performed in plays such as **, **. In 1941 he did Dagbreek (Wynand Du Preez), for the Krugersdorp Municipal Dramatic and Operatic Society (Dir. Hermien Dommisse). Then became a member of the Pierre De Wet Toneelgeselskap (with Paula Styger, Anna Neethling-Pohl and Gert van den Bergh) which toured South Africa in 1944. Among the plays he did were Pinkie (Pierre de Wet, 1944), He later played in a number of amateur and professional productions (including the famous 1947 Afrikaans Hamlet) and worked for NTO as well as the SABC. Became public relations officer for the city of Johannesburg. He also acted in a number of the films made in the 1940s and 50s, including Simon Beyers (dir Pierre de Wet, 19**), * (.
