The original text
Written in Swahili[] and based on the 1904–1905 Maji Maji Rebellion against colonial rule in German East Africa (present-day Tanzania), it explores the role played by the charismatic spiritual medium and leader Kinjeketile Ngwale[].
First published in Swahili in Dar Es Salaam by Oxford University Press in 1969.
