Not to be confused with the 1939 British film of the same name[2]
The film
A film about a small fishing community on the outskirts of Cape Town, where Gabriel discovers a dead body and two bags of valuable abalone. His brother, Michail, convinces him they must take it for themselves. But when a corrupt government worker pursues them, they embark on a journey into the mountains and are driven to the ends of the Cape of Good Hope for the survival of their relationship and their lives.
Written and directed by John Gutierrez, produced by Miss K Productions and Amiga Pictures, with music by Tapiwa Musvosvi, cinematography by Sebastian Cort, editing by Paul Speirs, casting by Portia Ntobeko Cele (as Portia Cele), production design by Imran Hamdulay, costume design by Olivia Galley and makeup by Lisa Wakelin.
The cast included Roberto Kyle, Marlon Swarts, Brendon Daniels, Nicole Fortuin, Sylvia Esau, Lamar Esau, Khosie Dali, Nadia Davids, Noor Emandien, John Gutierrez, Kolin Kai, Clark Lin, Anita Mbanyaru and Chris Mbelembushe.
The film was the director's debut film and won the Best South African Film award at the 2021 Durban International Film Festival and was an official selection at various international film festivals.
