Biography
Training
Nell van der Merwe obtained a BA Hons Drama (cum laude) in 2018 from the University of Pretoria (UP) and specialises in theatre direction and digital media. She obtained a MA Drama (cum laude) in 2022 from the UP, which allowed her to further develop her interest and study of magical realism as a theatre genre. She obtained an MA (cum laude) in theatre creation and – direction from the University of Cape Town in 2023.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
Dryfhout was written as part of her studies and was presented at Teksmark 2023. She has been working as a freelance artist in various aspects of the entertainment industry since 2017. Her exam piece, Op Soek na Salem, debuted at the Toyota US Woordfees Fringe in October 2023.
