Magda Beukes
Also known as Magdalena Beukes and Magda Beukes-Embrey in some sources.
(19*-) Actress, author and inspirational speaker. Studied Drama at the University of Pretoria (1969-1971), and after finishing her studies was contracted to PACT (1972-1975), initially doing children, youth and library programmes, then becoming part of the main theatre company. Later she moved to the Market Theatre (1975-1979). She also did radio work and TV dubbing from 1975 to 1984. Then for a while retired to Mossel Bay to do community work and found a theatre group for the youth. Became an inspirational speaker, touring locally and internationally, also with a number of one-woman productions she wrote, directed and performed in at Ons Teaterhuisie and the Pierneef Theatre in Pretoria(2000 – 2004) and in the USA (1991-2004), including **.. She later returned to acting, now working mainly in television. Her stage performances for PACT include Toiings, Babbelkous en Bruidegom, 'n Seder Val in Waterkloof, Othello, Die Rebellie van Lafras Verwey, and roles for the Market Theatre include God’s Forgotten(1976), Theodora, Die Van Aardes van Grootoor (1978), Paradise is Closing Down (1977), Karnaval (1981). Over the years she also wrote, directed and performed in a number of one-woman productions at Ons Teaterhuisie and the Pierneef Theatre in Pretoria(2000 – 2004) and in the USA (1991-2004), including **. Became known for roles in several Afrikaans films, such as 'n Beeld vir Jeannie (1976), Netnou hoor die kinders, (1977), 'n Seder val in Waterkloof (1978), Dit was aand en dit was more (1978), Plekkie in die son (1979) and Beloftes van more (1981). Her TV work included roles in The Villagers (SABC 3), Amalia I en II (KykNET), Egoli (M-Net, KykNET), Scandal, Binnelanders (KykNET)
