Annelise van der Ryst

Annelise van der Ryst (1948- ) is a South African stage, radio and television actress and a lay preacher

Confusingly, her name and surname has been spelled in a variety of ways over the years, including: Annalise van der Ryst, Annelise van der Rijst, Annelize van der Ryst, Anneliese van der Ryst, Annalise van der Rijst, Annelize van der Rijst or Anneliese van der Rijst. In addition, she sometimes includes her mother's surname and is then credited as Annelize van der Ryst-Hattingh.

Biography

Born on 8 March, 1948 she was adopted (her birth mother's surname having been Hattingh).

She trained at the Stellenbosch University Drama Department, and in later years also completed a B.Phil (Biblical interpretation) at Stellenbosch (2004), and then did an Honnours degree (2010) and an MA (cum laude) (2017), both in Antique Middle Eastern Studies at the University of Souyth Africa.

She was ordained as a Minister of Religion in the United Congregational Church of Southern Africa in February 1994, a position she held till September 2001.
