The original text
Based on Zakes Mda’s novel Ways of Dying. The music includes indigenous styles such as kwela, kwaito and marabi songs.

2001: Presented by Cape Town Opera at the National Arts Festival (June 28 and 30) and at the Baxter Theatre in Cape Town (19–28 July), featuring Gloria Bosman and Fikile Mvinjelwa.
