Tim Rice

Winner of numerous awards, including the Academy Award, Golden Globe Award, Tony Award and Grammy Award, Rice is perhaps best known for his collaborations with Andrew Lloyd Webber, with whom he wrote record breaking shows like Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Jesus Christ Superstar and Evita, as well as additional songs for the 2011 West End revival of The Wizard of Oz, and his work for Walt Disney Studios with Alan Menken (Aladdin, Beauty and the Beast, King David), Elton John (The Lion King, Aida) and Ennio Morricone.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

During a visit to South Africa in 1975 Rice stepped in and for a short run took over the role of "Pharaoh" in PACT's production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. It was seen as a great compliment to the production, which Tim pronounced to be the best he'd seen till then.
