by Mike van Graan. The writing of the play was made possible through a writing fellowship funded by Charles Diamond, a South African businessman living in London. It was written in the course of 2006, went through a number of revisions, and was first performed at the Market Theatre on 28 May 2009. The play is an explosive drama about Jewish, Muslim and Christian relations set in Cape Town in the late 1990’s and against the background of PAGAD’s activities against crime and the drug trade. Xenophobia, prejudice, religious conflict, fear and anxiety – these are the challenges three fathers have to deal with in order to protect their children. Director: Greg Homann. Award-winning actor, David Dennis, portrays the role of Abubaker Abrahams, Kurt Egelhof (Reverend Fredericks), Aimee Valentine (Leila Abrahams), Harrison Makubalo (Fadiel Suleiman) and Conrad Kemp is Brian Cohen. Commissioned by the Charles Diamond Foundation, Brothers in Blood premiered at the Market Theatre in 2009 and won the 2010 Naledi Theatre Award for Best New South African Play. Published in 2012 by Junkets Publishers (this carries an Author’s Note and a Director’s Introduction.)
