Keyan Tomaselli
Keyan Tomaselli is an academic and researcher in cultural and media studies.
He himself lists his areas of specialization as Cultural and Media studies, Critical Indigenous research methodology
Development Communication, and his projects and publications have included studies in theatre, film, media and performance.
BA (Honours) MA (Dramatic Art, University of Witwatersrand, 1980) with a masters thesis on The Semiotics of Film and a PhD (University of Witwatersrand, 1984) with a doctoral thesis on Ideology and Cultural Production in South African Cinema[1]
CCMS Director 1985-2013, Distinguished Professor, University of Johannesburg (2015ff)
Professor Emeritus and UKZN Fellow.
He is the founding editor (with John van Zyl) of the journal Critical Arts (1980-; now known as Critical Arts: South-North Cultural and Media Studies) and co-editor of the Journal of African Cinemas. He is a member of the Academy of Science for South Africa, contributes to programmes at the AFDA Film School, has written extensively on the South African film Industry, and acted as a script consultant.
