Critical Arts is an accredited journal of cultural studies and media.
Founded in 1980 by Keyan Tomaselli and John van Zyl at University of the Witwatersrand. When Tomaselli set up the Centre for Culture, Communication and Media Studies (CCMS) at the University of Natal, Durban, the journal moved there.
In 199* the journal was published jointly by, and renamed Critical Arts A Journal for South-North Critical and Media Studies *****
Since 200* published by UNISA Press (Pretoria).
In 2007 UNISA Press licenced Routlege (London) to publish the international edition from 2007 onwards.
