James Kirkwood [1] (1924-1989) was an American playwright, author and actor.

Wrote the play P.S. Your Cat is Dead!. He won a Pulitzer Prize and a Tony Award in 1976 for his co-authorship of A Chorus Line.

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

He starred in the Broadway comedy Never Too Late at the Civic Theatre for Hymie Udwin’s Theatre International in 1946. Elaine Perry directed this production which aslo starred American actors Roland Winters, Helen Lewis and Nancy Coleman.

Pieter Toerien staged his P.S. Your Cat is Dead, directed by Dennis Breto with John Fraser and Anthony Daniels in 1978.

Rex Garner directed his Legends! at the André Huguenet Theatre in 1988.
