The original text

Published in Paris by Cailleau, 1774.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into Dutch as De Belagchelycke Tooneelzucht Of De Liefhebbery Comedie, In De War (approx. "the silly theatrical sigh, or amateur theatre in confusion"), by Ward Bingley (1757- 1818) and published in Amsterdam by Pieter Johannes Uylenbroek in 1794.

1869: A play called De Liefhebbery Comedie in de War was performed by Aurora II on 8 July in the Germania Hall, Cape Town, with Het Origineele Testament (Brink). This may have been an abridged version of, or a parody on, the Dutch version of the French play by De Théis.
