De Zwervende Jood
De Zwervende Jood ("The Wandering Jew") is a Dutch translation of a French play or opera by Joseph Suasso de Lima
The original text
Possibly translated from one of two French operas by Fromental Halévy, most probably La Juife (1835 with a libretto by Eugène Scribe) or possibly even an early version of Le Juif Errant (1852, with a libretto by Eugène Scribe and Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges).
Performance history in South Africa
The Dutch play was performed in Cape Town in 1837. The translation was never published.
