Le Juif Errant
Le Juif Errant ("the Wandering Jew") is a French opera by Jacques Fromental Halévy (1799 - 1862), with a French libretto by Eugène Scribe (1791-1861) and Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges (1799-1875).
Not to be confused with Halévy and Scribe's other opera, La Juive ("the Jewess").
The original text
Based on Eugène Sue's novel , Le Juif errant (1844-45), the opera opened at the Paris Opera (Salle Le Peletier) on 23 April 1852, and had 48 further performances over two seasons.
