La Bisarrerie de la Fortune, ou Le Jeune Philosophe is a French comedy in five acts by Joseph-Marie Loaisel de Tréogate (1752-1812)

In modern editions of the second edition from 1799 it is found as La Bizarrerie de la Fortune, ou Le Jeune Philosophe.

The orginal text

The original French play was first performed in the Theatre du Marais on 16 April 1793. Published in Paris by Cordier in 1793(?) then in a new, improved, edition with a new ending in 1799 by Gobelet.

Translations and adaptations

Translated into Dutch as De Jonge Filosoof, of De Grilligheden van de Fortuin from the second, improved, French edition, by an unknown translator and published in Amsterdam by J. Doll in 1803.

Performance history in South Africa

1818: Produced in Dutch by the amateur company Tot Nut en Vermaak on 12 September in their own theatre, with the one act comedy De Spraaklooze (Von Kotzebue) as afterpiece.
