Gert van den Bergh

(19*-19*) Highly regarded Afrikaans actor for stage, radio and film. Born and raised in Krugersdorp, where he became a young member of the Krugersdorp Municipal Dramatic and Operatic Society(??*), doing **, Dagbreek (Du Preez, 1941), *. His exceptional talent noticed early (by inter alia Anna Neethling-Pohl and Hermien Domisse), the society raised funds through benefit performances to send him for further study at the University of Pretoria. There he became a member of the Volksteater in Pretoria, for whom he acted in Monna Vanna (Maeterlink, 1942), * In 1944 he was retained by Pierre De Wet as a professional actor, to tour with Pinkie (De Wet, 1944) and Die Goeie Oue Tyd (1944). ** With the founding of NTO in 1947, he worked for them. Productions include Altyd my Liefste (1947/8), [??*Nag het die wind gebring (1948/49), Minnaar onder die Wapen (Arms and the Man, 1949), Die Indringer (The Outsider, 1949),?*] Starred in numerous films, including Hans die Skipper (alongside André Huguenet), Pinkie se Erfenis (Pierre de Wet, 1046), Simon Beyers (Pierre de Wet, 19**), *. His radio work over the years included Agamamnon (1944), ** Married to Dulcie van den Bergh, and father of Regardt van den Bergh. *
