Gigi by Colette. A novel, written in 1945, adapted to the stage by Anita Loos in 1951, starred a young Audrey Hepburn. First produced in South Africa when the Johannesburg Reps celebrated their twenty-fifth anniversary in 1953, starring Tessa Laubscher. In 1967 Taubie Kushlick staged it again at the Zion Hall in Johannesburg.




Gigi: Stage name for South African actress Perlé van Schalkwyk.



The original text

A number of stage. stage musical and film adaptations have been based on Gigi [1] the 1944 novella by French novelist Colette (Sidonie-Gabrielle Colette, 1873–1954) [2].

Presented by CAPAB, opening 14 December 1966, at the Hofmeyr Theatre, directed by visiting American director Stanley Waren [3].
