Les Intrigants, ou Assaut de Fourberies

A comedy in three acts by Dumaniant (pseud. of Antoine Jean Bourlin, 1752-1828).

The original text

First performed in Paris at the Théâtre du Palais-Royal, on 6 August 1787. Printed 1788 by Chaillau, rue Galande 64, Paris.

Translations and adaptations

According to Worp (1908) translated into Dutch as Tot Middernacht, of List tegen List ("Till Midnight, or ) by B. Ruloffs in 1790, and by A. Maas in 1791.

Performance history in South Africa

1824: The Dutch translation (by either Ruloffs or Maas) performed in Cape own by Honi soit qui Mal y Pense on 23 October, with De Echtgenoot Kluizenaar (Kotzebue).

However, according to the publicity materialcited by Bosman, as well as the Biographisch woordenboek der Nederlanden (1869) it is a translation of Dumaniat's earlier play Guerre-Ouverte, ou Ruse contre Ruse (1786), the play on which Mrs Inchbald's play The Midnight Hour was based.
