The original text
A play about miscegenation and the pressures towards, and the devastating effects of, efforts to “try for white” under the apartheid regime through the underground association known as the “Kimberley train”. First produced in 1958 and published by Howard Timmins in 1976.

1958: First produced by Cecil Williams at the Library Theatre, Johannesburg on 12 September, with Johan Malherbe, George Jackson, Ann Aldred, John Whitfield, Robert Whitfield, Terrance Hampson, Willi Olivier, Bruce Meredith-Smith, Valerie Philip, Anthea Crosse, Maureen Pliss, Kita Redelinghuys and Jennifer Gray. Sets by Anthony Farmer.
