Based on the French opera L'Etoile du Nord[1] by Eugène Scribe (1791-1861)[2] and Giacomo Meyerbeer (1791-1864)[3], published in Paris by Brandus, in Berlin by Schlesinger and in London by Beale and Co in 1854.
