Studied at the University of the Witwatersrand School of Dramatic Art.
Career
In 200* became Chief executive for Arts and Culture in the North West Province. In 2002 appointed Artistic Director and Deputy CEO of the State Theatre.

Plays that he wrote, co-wrote and directed, include: Back to School (1985), Save the People (1986), Stronghold (1990), Silent Voices (1992), Roadhouse (1992), Mika (1993) (FNB Vita Award for most original production 1994), Scomearound (1993), Nkonyeni High (1995), On My Birthday (1996), Homegirls (1996), Not With My Gun (co-writer, 1997), The Stick (co-writer, 1999), Interracial (co-writer, 2007), Silent Voice (2008), Mantolo The 10th Step (2008), Kalushi - The Story of Solomon Mahlangu (2010), Rivonia Trial (2010), Rhetorical (co-writer, 2012).
Aubrey was on the panel of judges in 2011 for the ACT AWARDS (Arts & Culture Trust Awards of the President).

Won the Standard Bank Young Artist Award for Drama in 1998.
Vita Award (Gauteng region) (award year 1999): Best play: Not with my Gun.
Naledi Award (award year 2011): Directing of play/musical:Aubrey Sekhabi (Rivonia trial)
Naledi Award (award year 2014): Directing of play/musical: Aubrey Sekhabi : 'Marikana – The Musical.
