Nicky Caras (b. 11/07/1940 – d. **/**/2016) was a beauty queen and actress. Also credited as Nicolette Caras and Nicki Caras.

Biography

Nicolette Joan Caras of Johannesburg was South Africa’s 1960 Hibiscus Queen and, as a result, became the country’s entrant in that year’s Miss Universe competition. She ended as third runner-up, with Italian actress-to-be Daniela Bianchi chosen as first runner-up. Though she was signed to a three-month contract by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, the standard long-term seven-year contract she was offered put her off (“I was homesick”), but upon her return she appeared in three South African films: Die Tweede Slaapkamer (Gordon Vorster/1961), Jy’s Lieflik Vanaand (Gordon Vorster/1962) and Gevaarlike Spel (Al Debbo/1962). She also had a part in the 1961 stage production of The World of Suzie Wong, as staged by Brian Brooke. She subsequently married professional golfer Bobby Verwey. The couple had three sons. (FO)
