Tammy Bonell (19*) Actress, director and stage manager. Also known as Tammy Bonell-Garner.

Biography

She is married to Rex Garner.

Youth

Born in South Africa, was an AFS exchange student at Fountain Valley High School (California) in 1968/69, participating in school plays there.


Training

Career

Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance

On return went into theatre in South Africa, working as stage-manager on She’s Done it Again for the Academy Theatre of Laughter in 1971.

With her husband Rex Garner she formed a very prolific and skilled theatrical team.

As actress she performed in numerous plays, including Why Not Stay for Breakfast, Birds of Paradise (at the Academy Theatre), Doctor on the Boil, Uproar in the House (at the Hofmeyr Theatre in Cape Town), Chinamen (Lunch Hour Hofmeyr Theatre in Cape Town), Middle Age Spread (on tour, for Pieter Toerien), Cheaters (for Pieter Toerien), Moving (for Pieter Toerien and which was also filmed for SATV), Towards Zero, Noises Off, House Guest and Bedroom Farce (at the Market Theatre).

As a director she did Colin Higgins’ Harold and Maude at the Laager in 1982, and with Rex Garner directed Birds of Paradise (19**), James Sherman’s Beau Jest in 1993.

Tammy's television work includes Hospital, Westgate and Scotty Smith.
