Performance history in South Africa
1959: The Chairs was directed by Richard Daneel for the NTO Kamertoneel, starring himself, David Herbert and Wilma Stockenström . Decor by Frank Graves. Stage manager Athol Fugard.
1970: The Ferreira Afrikaans translation, Die Stoele was produced by KRUIK in November.
1979: A Don Maguire Production featured The Chairs and The Lesson in An Evening with Ionesco at the Baxter Theatre Studio. Directed by Don Maguire, the cast included Barbara Maguire, Richard Farmer and Don Maguire.
