Mr Poortemans

Mr Poortemans (17**-18**) was apparently a magic lantern[1] entertainer, who appeared in Cape Town as part of an evening's entertainment presented by Vlyt en Kunst in the African Theatre on 10 September 1836. His contribution was an interlude, described as a "zeer prachtig Transparant" ("a very beautiful transparency"), while the rest of the programme included Montoni, of Het Kasteel van Udolpho (Duval/Bruggemans), Nognetzoo (Boniface), Het Fancy Bal!!!. Music was provided by the musical group De Vriendschap
