The Hill
Also called "The Hill: A South African Myth", a full-length play by Zakes Mda (1980) for which he received the Amstel Playwright of the Year Award, 1979. Set in Lesotho and dealing with the plight of migrant workers in Southern Africa.
Published in two parts in Scenaria magazine, vols XVI and XVII, 1979(81?), later in The Plays of Zakes Mda (edited by Andrew Horn) in 1990 (Ravan Press). Again in the collection Open Space (Yvette Hutchison and Kole Omotoso, 1995) (Kagiso Publishers). Won the Amstel Playwright of the Year Award in 1979.

First produced at the Space Theatre (Cape Town) in 1980, [co-]directed by Rob Amato [and Nomhle Nkonyeni?*Kruger 185?]. Also done at the Market Theatre and township venues.
Staged in the Market Theatre in March 1995, directed by Philiswa Biko, with Job Kubatsi, Mokete Moketsi, Aubrey Moalosi, Felicia Mahambehlala, and Nandi Nyembe.
