Arthur Maimane
Arthur Maimane (1932-2005) [1]. Expatriate South African dramatist, short-story writer and journalist.
Biography
Born in Polokwane (then Pietersburg}, he was a contributor to Drum magazine before taking up a post with the BBC in London in 1958.
Arthur was the author of the one-act plays The Opportunity (1968), The Prosecution, Where the Sun Shines and The Hammer and the Nail.
His post apartheid full-length play called Hang on in There, Nelson was performed in 1996 at the Windybrow Theatre in Johannesburg and the State Theatre in Pretoria.
He wrote the long running series about a detective called “the Chief”, in the style of American crime writers under the pseudonym “Arthur Mogale”, published in Drum in the early 1950s.
