Dalle Case Company
The actor manager Dalle Case started his own professional French theatre company in February 1848 in Cape Town. Members were from the French Dramatic Artistes and included L. Vitor, C. Crosset and X. Hus. First performance February 14, 1848. They performed in the Hope Street Theatre (renamed to Sans Souci Theatre by Case). Three performances were held in the Garrison Theatre. Programmes concentrated on vaudeville (The Resources of Jonah), dance, ballet and light farces in between, e.g. Baking and Roasting without Fire. This short-lived company broke up in March 1848 due to financial trouble. (MNeethling)
