Biography
Brett acted professionally since he was 11 years old.
He was murdered on April 16, 2006, on the eve of leaving for Stratford-upon-Avon with the Baxter’s Hamlet company. The Brett Goldin Bursary Fund was founded by the Royal Shakespeare Company in England, The Actor's Centre in Johannesburg and the Baxter Theatre Centre in Cape Town, in honour of his memory.
Training
He had a BA in English and Drama and a Performer’s Diploma from the University of Cape Town.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
Stage credits include roles in Macbeth (Maynardville, 20**), Two Gentlemen of Verona (Maynardville, 20**), More (***), Pickups (**), A Tale of Two Cities and The Secret Diary of Adrian Mole (**), Hamlet (Baxter Theatre, 2005).
As writer and performer he created and toured with his own one-man show Bad Apple to schools and played at the Cape Town Festival, the Schools' Festival at Artscape and the NSA Festival in Johannesburg.
A prolific worker in TV and film, he co-wrote and starred in Fela’s TV and has been in Crazy Monkey; Yizo, Yizo; Charlie Jade, Stokvel, Madam and Eve; SOS and Scoop Schoombie on TV.
Film credits include Slash, Proteus, and Straight Outta Benoni (2005).
