African Film Productions Ltd
African Film Productions Ltd was a film production studio, located in the Johannesburg suburb of Killarney.
History
Africa's first motion picture studio formed by I.W. Schlesinger in 1915. It produced newsreels, short subjects and feature films in the Afrikaans language. Much of the filming took place at the Killarney Film Studios built by Schlesinger on land he purchased outside of Johannesbsurg, naming it 'Killarney'.
One of its earliest productions was De Voortrekkers (1916). Between 1916 and 1922 African Film Productions made forty-three films.
It was bought out by 20th Century Fox in 1959 and renamed South African Screen Productions.
