The original text
Predominantly written in isiZulu, with some English dialogue, it is a piece about Matlakala, a woman born to a drug addict, who must face the same challenges as her mother when she herself becomes a parent.
Inspired by a poem by playwright Napo Masheane, the play was written in 2011 for a class production for the author's students at the Monnyth Art House in Pretoria. to serve as .

Performance history in South Africa
2012: Performed at the the Market Theatre Laboratory's Zwakala Festival by the author's former students from the class of 2011, where it came out the winner. Directed by Godfrey Thobejane the large cast included: Khethiwe Dlamini (Madlakala/singer), Shirley Mtombeni (Mrs Nqobo/Singer), Tshepiso Manhique (Ophinias/singer), Sizile Khumalo (Thokozani/singer), Sphumuzo Sidzumo (Zazi’s Father/singer), Katlego Makatu (Thandi/singer), Lesego Chabedi (Zazi/singer), Tshepiso Mokoena (prostitute/singer), Mbalenhle Grace Magubane (social worker, singer), Brian Maloka (Grandfather/singer), Ditebogo Kgotseng (police/singer), Tshepiso Mabaso (Mlomo/singer), Tsholofetso Ngobeni (singer).
2012: The play also had a limited season at the Barney Simon Theatre, playing from 14 to 27 May.
