Based on a tale recorded by Jacob Grimm (1785–1863) and Wilhelm Grimm (1786–1859)[1].

Translated into Afrikaans by Lydia Pienaar ()[] in 1970 and published in
Adapted as an Afrikaans stage play for children called of Koning Lysterbaard, probably by the director Esther van Ryswyk (). A copy of the typed text is held in the Drama Department archive, University of Stellenbosch.
