The original text
Subtitled "‘n 'ap-toe-dyt' klug" ("an up-to-date farce"), the play was written in 1998 and won the first prize as the best new play by a high school pupil in a newly founded competition open to all schools in the Northern Cape, run by the Upington Leeskring ("Upington reading circle").
The text, author and players also won awards at the various festivals where the play was performed.

Performance history in South Africa
1998: First produced by pupils of the Hoërskool Martin Oosthuizen in Kakamas as part of a theatre evening, directed by Anita H. Mans and featuring Barnie Mans, Hennie van Tonder, Francois Theron, Daniel Theron, Eljoana Steenkamp and Sune Steenkamp. Lighting by Chantal Louw.
1998: The play was also performed at the Logan Toneelfees in Fraserburg, the ATKV national schools festival, and the Namakwaland Toneelfees in Springbok.
