Biography
Weideman was born on July 2, 1947 in Cradock and matriculated from Hoërskool Namakwaland in Springbok. He became a teacher in 1970. He married Celién Nel in 1973 and the couple had two daughters. He lectured at Peninsula Technikon in Parow until his retirement in 1997. George died of leukemia in Bellville at 6l on 28 August 2008.
Training
He obtained a BA Honours from Unisa and a Masters from Rhodes University under André P. Brink. It was impresssive enough to be upgraded to a doctorate.
Contribution to SA theatre, film, media and/or performance
He wrote several stage plays of which only one, My Plaas se Naam is Vergenoeg, was published. He also wrote three unpublished radio dramas. In 2004 his play My Plaas se Naam is Vergenoeg ("My farm's name is Far Enough") won the first Sanlam Award for New Plays when produced at the Volksbladfees in Bloemfontein by the Stellenbosch University Drama Department, directed by Johan Esterhuizen.
